Live ScoreBoard Sri Lanka v India ,2nd Test Match at Galle, Live telecast, Online Scoreboard : India finished at 329
August 1, 2008
Virender Sehwag completed a brilliant double-century (201 not out) to help India post 329 in the first innings on the second day of the second Test against Sri Lanka here on Friday.
The explosive opener carried his bat through the innings to remain unbeaten on 201, becoming in the process only the 10th Indian to complete 5,000 Test runs.
Sehwag was on 195 when last-man Ishant Sharma joined him, but succeeded in reaching the double-hundred a few overs later with a single off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan (2-93).
He hit four sixes and 22 fours in his 231-ball knock for his fifth score of more than 200 in Test cricket, including two triple-centuries.
Sri Lanka’s unorthodox spinner Ajantha Mendis (6-117) was also in the limelight as he grabbed four of the six wickets that fell in the morning to complete a maiden five-wicket haul.
Mendis, playing only his second Test, finished the innings when he trapped Sharma leg-before on the stroke of lunch.
India finished at 329. Ajantha Mendis finished with his first five wicket haul as he ended with figures of 6 for 117. Virender Sehwag remained undefeated on 201 as he did manage to take India to a respectable score of 329. Now it was again upto the bowlers to take the charge and bring back India in the series.
India again failed to read Ajantha Mendis as he continued to run havoc in the Indian batting line-up. He along with Murali were clearing up the tail in quick time. Sehwag though on the other hand contined to score runs and added crucial runs to India’s total.
Sri Lanka lead 1-0 in the three-match series after winning the opening Test by an innings and 239 runs in Colombo last week.
