Indian Premier League : IPL dates likely to change due to polls, terror strikes

March 4, 2009

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to alter the dates of a few Indian Premier League (IPL) matches so that they don’t clash with Lok Sabha elections.

“We are open to making minor adjustments in IPL schedule. No IPL match will be held in a city where polls are being held that day,” BCCI President Shashank Manohar told in an Interview.

After the terror attack on the Sri Lankan players in Lahore on Tuesday, the Home Ministry believes security will be a major concern with General Elections, too, taking place at the same time as the IPL.

The IPL starts on April 10 and the first round of polling is on the April 16.
