IPLT20 Live Cricket Score : Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab

April 21, 2009

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab by 11 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-shortened Indian Premier League match at Kingsmead to claim its first victory in the tournament.

Kings XI Punjab became the first team to have lost both their games in the second edition.

Man-of-the-match Chris Gayle hit a swashbuckling 44 not out to take Kolkata to 79-1 before rain stopped play in the ninth over.

The West Indies skipper smacked two fours and six sixes, although he had an early reprieve when he was dropped by Vikram Singh in the second over.

Chris Gayle (44 not out off 26 balls) has been adjudged the MOM for the first time in IPL for making his best score in the tournament, eclipsing the 10 he made against Deccan Chargers in Cape Town on April 19.

Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle put on a 57-run partnership for the opening wicket, which is Kolkata’s highest against Kings XI, beating the 45 between Sourav Ganguly and Salman Butt at Kolkata last year.

Kings XI Punjab (158/6) produced their lowest score against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL.
