ICC World Twenty20 : Rohit Sharma gives India another opening option

June 4, 2009

Rohit Sharma’s blazing form since the start of the Indian Premier League and his superb batting performances as an opener in the two warm-up games for the ICC World Twenty20 has suddenly put a question mark on Virender Sehwag’s comeback.

Rohit Sharma gave India fans plenty of hope they could manage without star opener Virender Sehwag during the World Twenty20 after leading them to a warm-up thrashing of arch-rivals Pakistan.

A converted No 3, Sharma made a superbly paced 80, off 93 balls with two sixes and six fours, while sharing a 140-run opening stand with left-hander Gautam Gambhir that all but saw defending champions India to their victory target of 159.
